Bed bugs are parasitic insects that feed exclusively on blood. Cimex lectularius, the common bed bug, is the best known as it prefers to feed on human blood; Warm houses and especially near or inside beds and bedding or other sleep areas are there preferred habitat. The most common shelter s for bed bugs are in the seams of mattresses, in crevices in the bed frame, behind furniture surrounding the bed or where the wall meets the floors. Bed bugs are mainly active at night, but are not exclusively nocturnal. They usually feed on their hosts without being noticed. They are attracted by heat and CO2 released from our bodies. The adverse health effects may result from bed bug bites, including skin rashes, psychological effects, and allergic symptoms. Bedbugs are becoming an increasingly important problem in this country.
