Villa communities such as Khalifa City, Al Raha and Mohammed Bin Zayed City sit on sandy soil that subterranean termites travel through easily. We install perimeter barriers and monitoring stations tuned to these developments.

In Abu Dhabi, termite risk depends largely on the age of the villa. In newer communities at the desert edge, such as Al Shamkha, Al Reef and Al Ghadeer, the question is whether the soil was treated before the slab was poured and whether that treatment still covers the whole house. In older districts such as Al Bateen, Al Mushrif and Baniyas, mature trees and barriers laid many years ago mean protection may simply have worn out.

Anything that disturbs the soil around a house can break a barrier: an extension, a new pool, re-laid paving or planting beds dug against the wall. Build termite work into any renovation plan. Winged termites indoors, often around lights in spring, mean a mature colony is close by.

Before the inspection, move stored boxes and timber away from the garden walls, make sure sprinklers do not wet the base of the house, and note any wooden decking or pergola posts set into the soil. Call before you buy or rent an older villa, and as soon as building work is planned.
