Abu Dhabi's event calendar is busiest in the cooler months, from autumn through spring, when weddings, conferences and National Day functions come close together. Hotel ballrooms and banquet halls along the Corniche, on Al Maryah Island and on Yas Island may host several events a week, and the cleaning has to fit into the gap between the last guest leaving and the next set-up.

Most of the work is on the floor. Large patterned carpets in ballrooms hold spilled drinks, crumbs and ash from bukhoor burners, and entrances pick up sand walked in from car parks. Restrooms, prayer rooms and ablution areas carry the heaviest traffic in the venue and are best cleaned and disinfected after every large function, not only at the end of the week.

Before we arrive, have the decorators remove stage props and flower displays, stack or clear chairs, and point out delicate finishes such as upholstered stage seating or fabric wall panels. Venues with steady bookings usually do better on a fixed routine: a quick reset after each event and a deeper clean every few weeks.
