In Abu Dhabi, where the cockroaches come from matters as much as how many there are. In Al Zahiyah, Al Nahyan and Madinat Zayed, many homes sit above restaurants and food shops, and German cockroaches climb through the service ducts. On Al Maryah Island, food courts and restaurant kitchens need scheduled, documented work. In a mainland villa, a cockroach in the kitchen has often arrived in a delivery box or grocery bag.

Activity rises as summer heat and humidity build, when cockroaches gather in the warmth behind fridges, dishwashers and water heaters. If you are moving flat, it is worth treating the new one while it is empty and every cabinet can be reached.

Before the visit, empty the cabinet under the sink and the ones beside the cooker. Do not spray for a few days beforehand, because repellent sprays push cockroaches away from bait. Tenants should tell building management, as neighbouring units may need treatment too. Call if you see cockroaches in daylight, which usually means a large population.
